Adult Education

FPC has a rich history of providing adult education.

Rowdies Adult Sunday School Class – a multigenerational class where all are welcome. The class studies God’s Word in an attempt to apply it to their lives so that they can live out their motto “Your life may be the only Bible some people read.” They typically conduct two book studies a year, in addition to the Advent and Lenten devotions provided by the Presbyterian Church USA.

Presbyterian Women

Presbyterian Women is an organized group of women at First Presbyterian Church. The group is connected to the Presbytery of Baltimore and The Presbyterian Church USA. All women of the church belong to the Presbyterian Women’s Group (PW), however some are active and some inactive.

PW currently has one active circle, S.I.S.T.E.R.S, which meets monthly over light refreshments, sharing Bible study, a short meeting, and social time together. There is a Circle leader to coordinate the monthly meetings and share what the PW Board has discussed and the plans of action to support a variety of missions.

PW has officers, chairs of committees, and fundraising events. One of their biggest events is the Advent Tryst started in 1969 by Ann McConaughy and the Rev. Schreffler. It is a service designed and led by the PW. A local charity is selected and all monies given in the offering that day are given to the charity. All women from churches in Harford County are invited to attend.

PW has several small offerings collected at each meeting to support circle activities. Fundraising is also done through several events including a bake sale, nut sale, and a Trash and Treasure Sale or Card Party. These activities are held to fund the PW missions. Some of the local missions PW supports are the Wilson Center, Meals on Wheels, FCCAU, Habitat for Humanity, Shreffler House, Boys and Girls Club, Deacons’ Fund, CIS mission trip and Vacation Bible School. Statewide, they support the GMBC Board of Lady Managers and the Presbyterian Home. Globally, they support the Child Fund International Fund and Samaritan’s Purse.

PW is responsible for the church kitchen and has supplies on hand for their events. They also make sure that the kitchen is clean and passes a health inspection each year.

PW welcomes any woman to join them and become an active member.
