FPC supports many missions with time and talents as well as financial support. These include:
FPC Food Pantry
First Presbyterian Church actively sponsors our own food pantry. The pantry is stocked through donations from the congregation and staffed by volunteers. The food pantry will continue in a modified self-serve fashion from Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM throughout Summer 2021.
The Shreffler House is a housing mission of First Presbyterian Church located in the manse next to the church. Its purpose is to provide temporary housing to families in need during a transitional period in their lives. Members of the church offer support and assistance as needed. We seek to fulfill Christ’s call to welcome the stranger and provide a home to those who do not have one.
Manna House is a mission of Bel Air United Methodist Church, where volunteers prepare and serve lunch to the homeless and needy every Wednesday. First Presbyterian Church volunteers bake and deliver cakes for the dessert on the first Wednesday of each month.
Harford Family House
First Presbyterian Church offers financial support to Harford Family House located in Aberdeen. Harford Family House provides transitional housing and support for families in need of assistance. It is funded through donations from churches, organizations and individuals willing to assist the needy.
Wycliffe Bible Translators
First Presbyterian Church helps sponsor the work of Paul Schmidt, a missionary working with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They believe that the Bible is God’s word to us and something that everyone should be able to understand in their own language. Paul is currently working in India.
First Presbyterian Church offers financial support to SARC (Sexual Assault-Spousal Abuse Resource Center). This organization is Harford County’s lifeline to victims, potential victims and survivors of domestic violence, child abuse and stalking.
First Presbyterian Church offers both financial support and volunteers to assist the WVMAW (West Virginia Ministry of Advocacy and Workcamps). The mission of this ministry is to offer the opportunity for discipleship by partnering with those in need whose lives have been devastated by natural disasters or by poverty in the areas of West Virginia. Each summer, First Presbyterian Church sends a group of youth and adults to work in home repair and reconstruction, helping in areas of flood disaster or wherever the need at that time. They help change lives in the name of Jesus Christ.
Habitat for Humanity
First Presbyterian Church offers financial help for Habitat for Humanity. This is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization that builds simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need.
First Presbyterian Church offers financial support to FCCAU (Faith Communities and Civic Agencies United), which is a charitable organization that provides shelter and meals to adult men and women. In Harford County, it is known as Welcome One Emergency Shelter and is located in Belcamp.
One Great Hour of Sharing
This is a special offering that is received during the Easter Season that supports and sustains ministries and programs that help our neighbors-in-need around the world. The offering provides relief to those affected by natural disasters, provides food to the hungry and helps to empower the poor and oppressed. The children contribute to this offering by filling fish banks during Lent. A long time member, Margaret Bridson, committed a portion of her estate through the Bridson Trust Fund toward supporting One Great Hour of Sharing as a yearly contribution. This mission is well supported by our Church.
